MMM-CBHC welcomes a new Anti-Human Trafficking organization in the region
For the past three years, Faraja has been the only organization conducting Anti Human Trafficking activities in the Singida region with the support and cooperation from the government. It was therefore an exciting news to be welcomed to share experience on Human Trafficking in a two-day workshop by the C- Sema organization.
C- Sema is a reputable organization imbedded in the civic, change and child affairs in Tanzania. They ensure security to children against any acts of cruelty and violence both online and offline. They have successfully saved and protected children by creating a National Child Helpline in which citizens can anonymously call 116 without credit charge to report any crime of violence against children.
From the child helpline reports, it was observed that Singida had the most cases of Child Trafficking (9 out of 18 reports). Most of these cases were of children trafficked within the country to be housemaids. C- Sema has therefore created the “Mfanyakazi Project” to protect and help trafficked children intended to be housemaids. The project is currently conducted in Singida rural district where most children are being trafficked.
The experience sharing workshop was a lively one and had involved all the local government officials involved with either children or trafficking and similar organizations Faraja being among them.
The organizations have intended to ensure cooperation and support against child trafficking in the region with the support from the local government authority as well.
